Character Reference Letter

Please forward this page ( to the individual who will write your character reference letter. Be sure to send them your CUNYfirst ID number (also referred to as EMPLID), which will only be generated after you submit your application.

The Character Reference Letter can be written by anyone who knows you well: an employer, a neighbor, a member of a cultural, religious, or community group that you belong to, or even one of the recommenders who have agreed to write your Academic Recommendation.


Instructions for Writing the Character Reference Letter

To help Macaulay Honors College identify those exceptional, high-achieving students who have the promise and potential to become our next generation of civic, business, and intellectual leaders, please share with us your insights on the values, integrity and character of the applicant. Will he or she embrace the spirit of diversity and inclusion that the Macaulay community embodies? In what ways will the applicant’s experience, voice, or vantage point inform or engage their peers, whether in the classroom or in the broader social context of undergraduate life?

If you prefer to submit a printed letter, be certain to include at the top of the page your name and contact information, the student’s name, and their CUNYfirst ID (EMPLID) number. Please send the letter to:
